Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening procedures have become increasingly popular over the years with patients of all age groups and from all walks of life taking an interest in whitening their teeth.
A clean, healthy gleaming smile is easily one of nature’s best gifts – so why not maximise on your asset! But it is important that the mouth is generally ‘dentally fit’ before tooth whitening procedures are undertaken and any surface stains, discoloured fillings or old porcelain crowns should be addressed first.
What tooth whitening products do we offer?
The products on the market vary in their concentrations and applications so for a consumer this can be bewildering.
Two products most frequently used are Hydrogen Peroxide at 3%, 7.5% or 9.5%, or Carbamide Peroxide at 10%, 16% or 22%.
Our advice would be to NEVER to purchase directly on the Internet or from a non-dentally qualified source.
Some products are designed to be used at home, with specially constructed dental trays that hold the product against the teeth for anything from just one hour a day to over-night. Knowing which product to use and how long for is vital!
Other ‘power-whitening’ procedures can be carried out in the dental chair for a more instant, but vastly more expensive result.
Recent studies have shown that the use of a lower concentrate of product applied gradually at home offers a comparable result to in-surgery ‘power-whitening’, but it is less likely to cause tooth sensitivity problems by allowing a more gradual ‘whitening’ process. Furthermore, much less expensive!
At Pritlove-Carson Associates Tooth Whitening home-use products are available from our Windsor practice to all our patients with prices on request.
Note: ALL whitening effects reduce over time after treatment is complete.
