Dental Hygiene

A Clean Bright Smile – and less time in the dentist’s chair!
Following a recent change in the dental law, dental hygienists can now accept patients for treatment independently, with an appropriate referral from any dentist.
Hygienists are part of a large and growing team of dental health care professionals at Pritlove-Carson Associates – registered dental specialists providing a full range of dental services in modern, relaxed environments. Today there is greater freedom of choice than ever before and at Pritlove-Carson we offer and deliver first class advice and treatment, making us an easy first choice.
What does a Dental Hygienist do?
The traditional role of a Dental Hygienist is screening, management and prevention of gum disease, helping retain teeth and gums in good working order. Increasingly, a Dental Hygienist may become involved in giving advice, not only in oral hygiene matters but dietary advice - all with a view to promoting not only healthy teeth and gums, but a healthier life-style.
Learn to recognise foods and substances that lead to decay, staining and enamel loss and in the process, keep your natural teeth healthier and whiter for longer!
For darkened or stained teeth, our Dental Hygienists can provide you with custom made trays to carrying out safe tooth-whitening procedures at home.
Many ‘health’ foods and drinks have hidden sugars and acids causing enamel erosion resulting in weakened teeth and sensitivity; Dental Hygienists can advise how to minimise these risks and apply de-sensitising agents when necessary.
Can children attend the Dental Hygienist?
Children are welcome since an introduction early on in life will set up good routines. Dental Hygienists can help with the formation of good dietary and brushing habits to prevent tooth cavities; apply varnishes to newly grown molar teeth in order to protect from tooth decay and take moulds for custom-made sports guards for protection against sports injuries - especially in young, growing mouths.
Screening for oral cancer is part of the service. Oral cancer is simply not just a disease that only affects older people who smoke and drink. There is growing evidence for the role of viruses in oral cancer, with the fastest growing sector developing oral cancer aged between 30-50 years.
So, whether you just want whiter teeth, fresher breath or to learn how you can keep your teeth for life, let our Dental Hygienists help you make the most of your natural smile, while improving your confidence and self-image at the same time!
